Social Groups

ORS social groups are carefully crafted to provide a secure environment where people can connect with peers while receiving guidance from practitioners. The main objective is to facilitate social interactions and foster a sense of community among individuals who share a common interest.

These groups are led by practitioners who specialise in paediatrics. Depending on the group’s objectives, it can be run by psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists or allied health assistants. In most cases, we have a multidisciplinary team involved in the preparation and delivery of the group. This helps us to focus on the application of skills and goals that your child has been learning in their individual therapy.

Social Groups at ORS

Early Intervention Groups

Our early intervention groups are for children 0-5. These groups will have two elements. One focus is on developing these young children’s skills in developmental play, social communication, and fine and gross motor skills by providing opportunities for them to learn through playful experiences. But the part we really love is focusing on support for the parents and caregivers. In each session, we provide an opportunity for parents to network and connect with one another as well as to meet with one of the lead practitioners from the group to cover information about how to support the continued development of these skills outside of the group.

Primary-Aged Groups

Our primary-aged groups are interest-based groups that provide a safe space to connect with peers and connect around a common interest. These groups focus on developing self-advocacy skills, engaging in problem-solving, working collaboratively and communicating with others. We are currently offering these groups to our existing participants as an opportunity to extend and generalise the skills we have been working on in individual therapies.
